Introduction
Hey everyone,
My name is Donovan Mbroh and I am now a senior electrical engineering major at the University of Oklahoma. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas where I graduated from Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, Texas. The most important thing to me is my family. I have an older sister named Hayden who is getting her PHD in Clinical psychology at UT southwestern medical center. My mom also specializes in psychology and frequently attends events as a public speaker concerning race, reconciliation, and diversity. My dad is the head of an engineering firm in Dallas. My parents are both from Oklahoma so I am very familiar with the area. I have another cousin who attends Oklahoma and many relatives in the area as well. I am a huge sports fanatic, especially when it comes to basketball and football. Oklahoma's strong sports presence was definitely a factor in me attending this university. My hobbies include involvement in church, hanging with friends, and engineering. I have heard great things about this class and am looking forward to learning more as the semester progresses. This past semester I interned for a defense contractor in Tucson, Arizona. I started on May 20th and finished on August the 10th. I stayed in an AirBnB with two other interns. I was initially skeptical of this housing arrangement but it proved to be exactly what I needed. One of my roommates over the summer also attends OU and the other attends UT so we had him outnumbered. We became very close over the span of the summer and i'm confident that we will keep in touch. I was mostly skeptical about the fact that we were going to stay in an AirBnB for the entirety of the summer. This turned out fine too because we filtered our host on the website to be someone who had great experience and great reviews. If you ever use AirBnB, make sure you get a super host like we did. This summer was a perfect way for me to gain momentum and finish my time at OU with a strong senior year.

Hi Donovan!
ReplyDeleteIt’s so great that you had such an awesome experience during your internship this past summer. Good thing you had your roommate from UT outnumbered… BOOMER SOONER!! I’m also a huge sports fan and love that OU has such a strong sports presence as well. It’s one of my favorite things about OU because I feel like it brings so much of the University together in one place!
Nice to meet you, Donovan!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome that you got to stay in Arizona this past summer for an internship! That's actually the next state on my bucket list to visit because I would love to see the desert in person (especially that cacti and wildlife). I am glad to hear that your AirBnB experience turned out well! I could not imagine how miserable it would have been to stay there for a whole summer if it was sketchy or if your host was not the greatest.
Nice to meet you, Donovan. I'm glad to hear you had such a great time in Tucson. Arizona is one of my favorite states. If you can survive the heat, it is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in your last year at OU!
Hi, Donovan!
ReplyDeleteMy mom was born and raised in Dallas, so I am familiar with the area as well! I love how much family means to you. I have a pretty small family, and my immediate family is close but we are not very close with our extended family. I love how you have been able to apply your studies and passions to work in the real world! Excited to read your stories this semester!
Hey Donovan! It's so cool that you got to intern with a defense contractor over the summer. I bet you learned quite a few cool things. Arizona is beautiful, I'm glad you had such a good time there during your internship. It's nice that one of your roommates was from OU too, that way it's much easier to keep in touch. I'm excited to see more of your work this semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Donovan! That is so cool that your family is so involved in the psychology field as I am a psychology major myself! Although I am on the pre-medicine course as well, I find psychology to be extremely interesting. I am a huge sports fan as well, and I love keeping up with all things OU. I probably visit OU football websites at least 10 times a day as I love to keep up to date. Good luck this semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Donovan!
ReplyDeleteI also have some family in Dallas! Dallas traffic is a force to be reckoned with. It is amazing to see how you were able to intern in Arizona! I have never been to Arizona, so it interesting to read about other people's experiences. I hope you have a great semester, and I am excited to read more stories by you.
Hi Donovan! It's cool that your family has a history of high education and professional careers! I like what you were talking about being skeptical initially about your housing arrangement but it ended up being super awesome! I think a lot of times, people will surprise you in the most unlikely of places and situations and hey you know what? Sometimes you might make a friend or two. Good luck this year!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, Tucson: I love that city! What a great summer that sounds like, Donovan! Of all the places we lived when I was little, that was my favorite. It's the only place I've ever lived where I knew the names of all the plants and animals because I loved being outside in the desert and exploring. Mountains, saguaros... YES! We lived in the foothills of the Catalina mountains... so beautiful. I always knew which way was north, south, east, west because I could use the mountains to orient. I would move back there in a heartbeat, and I am glad you got to enjoy the beauty of the Sonoran desert for a whole summer! Maybe your life path will take you back there again someday: you never know! I would be very glad if my life path were to wind back in that direction. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Donovan! I'm always happy to see a fellow Texan here. Last year I had an internship in Florida and had a really hard time finding housing, so I ended up staying in an airbnb as well. I too was skeptical of staying in an airbnb all summer, but I ended up loving it! It was a tiny house, so I lived alone (which I loved) and my host was super nice. She even invited me to dinner with her family sometimes! I'm glad you had a good airbnb experience, too.
ReplyDeleteHey Donovan!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a senior. Electrical engineering sounds like an interesting but tough major, so good for you! I also love watching sports. It was definitely one reason why I came to OU as well, so I can relate to that! Congrats on that internship, it sounds like that was a really neat experience for you. Good luck on finishing your time here!
Hi Donovan,
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Arizona, and I actually just met someone yesterday who works as an engineer at a defense company in Tucson. I wonder if it is the same company you interned at? He seemed to really be enjoying it! I love staying at Air BnB's, I have had nothing but good experiences. I really enjoyed reading your introduction and can't wait to keep up with your stories!
Hello Donovan,
ReplyDeleteI'm not an engineer but I have several other friends that are in their final year of electrical engineering and they're having a rough time so I hope your semester is going well for you! Staying at an Airbnb for an entire summer sounds like an interesting time! Hope you enjoyed your internships and made some valuable connections. Good luck!
Hey Donovan!
ReplyDeleteI hope your internship went well! Tuscon seems like a really cool city, so that's awesome. I am also an engineering major, but I'm an ISE. I could never do EE. I am currently looking for an internship right now, because I'm going to attend grad school. But good luck this semester! I hope you survive, I can't imagine how difficult it is! I look forward to reading your stories.
Hi Donovan!
ReplyDeleteI am also from Dallas and love it there. Oklahoma is so different and while I've enjoyed my time here I can't wait to move back. That's awesome that your internship was in Arizona, mine was in Dallas but I think it would be so cool to go somewhere else for a summer! A superhost is definitely the way to go when it comes to airbnb. I've had some bad experiences but their customer service is really awesome, I think I prefer a hotel though (for shorter stays than a whole summer) just because I feel like airbnb has so many hidden fees it almost ends up feeling more expensive anyways? Well I hope you have a great semester, I'm looking forward to reading your stories!
Hey Donavon!
ReplyDeleteYour major sounds very interesting and hard at the same thing. I think I remember someone telling me that engineering requires a lot of math, which I am not good at, so that is impressive. I have ever had an Airbnb experience before but have looked into it. After reading you talk about the experience, I think this year I am finally going to try one out when I got to Arizona for winter break. Do you have a dream job that you would like to get once you graduate? Keep up the good work and hope to read more stories from you.
Hi Donovan! Congrats on making it to senior year! I am really jealous but I am almost there. Your internship sounds so cool! I have never been to Arizona and it seems like a really cool state to visit or work. AirBnB sounds like a really good time on trips. I have never slept or used an AirBnb but it is on my bucket list to do so.
ReplyDeleteHi Donovan!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on making it to senior year! You are almost done with the college experience so soak it up while you can! I can relate with you on the fact that I am a huge Sooner sports fan as well. I am very excited for this upcoming week as it is the famed Red River Rivalry game between OU and Texas. Hope to see you there!
Hi Donovan,
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful experience as an intern this summer. Arizona must of been hot though haha. I love the Sooner Pride you exude! It OU x TX weekend and naturally horns were down and ones were up!! I am also family orientated as well! My sister and I are built in bffs. I hope you have a wonderful time in this class! I look forwards to reading your stories!
Hi there!!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! My brothers and my dad are all engineers, so I find that cool that you are studying to be one as well! Congrats on it being your senior year, it is mine as well and I know for a fact that senioritis has already hit me! What about you??
Hey there Donovan! It is so strange but once I read about your mom, I wondered if she might have known mine.... it turns out that they know each other, small world! My mom is in the field of psychology as well and so I thought I would ask if she recognized your last name and she did. My brother actually followed in her footsteps just like your sister did too! Meanwhile I am headed off to medical school (specifically podiatry school), so it looks you and I both decided to not travel the same paths as our mothers and siblings. Tell your mom that Monica Palmer from Catholic Charities says hello :)
ReplyDeleteHey Donovan,
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I'm really curious as to how your last name is pronounced. I see that you're from Dallas, and a big sports fanatic. I'm currently watching the Cowboy's game as I write this comment, lol.
It's cool that you're getting your degree in Electrical Engineering. My husband is a Systems Engineer at Boeing (I'm honestly not sure if they are similar in the slightest bit).
Kudos for having the courage to room with two strangers in an AirBnB. That would be something I would definitely have trouble with. First off, I'm not a very social person, and hate having roommates. Another thing is, I've heard horror stories about AirBnB's. But I'm glad you got through it and made some good friends in the process!
Hi Donovan,
ReplyDeleteI had never considered booking an AirBnB for a short-term housing situation but that is a really great idea! I know it can be nerve-wracking to do stuff like that in a new place but it is good that you did not let it stop you from doing your internship. I don't know much about defense contractors but any internship is a great use of time for experience and resumes. I hope you're enjoying the course!
Hi Donovan! I hope that you have been enjoying your semester so far. That’s nice that you have some connections to Oklahoma and the area. It can definitely make going to school here a bit easier. It sounds like you had a really cool internship. I’m sure that was a great experience. I’ve only stayed in an AirBnB once, and it was in Italy, so that was an interesting experience. Good luck with the rest of the semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Donovan! I am also a senior and from the Dallas area! I went to Liberty Christian School ( in Argyle) which means that our schools played each other! What a small world! My mom also specialized in psychology, as she is a psychiatrist. Also, your internship sounded really cool and I am so glad that you made friends and that the housing situation turned out great. Good luck with the rest of your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Donovan. Your internship seems like so much fun! I have never stayed in a airbnb that long.It sounds like a great experience. Eventually when I find a internship, I'll have to check that out! I only really use airbnb for short stays but sometimes I get the best houses, so I would not mind staying for longer. Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteHi Donovan, nice to meet you via online! First, wow your family seems very intelligent, that is awesome. Congrats on starting your senior year that is a great accomplishment. Did you enjoy your internship this summer? I think it is great that you really grew to become friends with your roommates and will keep in touch. I cannot believe we only have a little over a month left of school. Have a great last month and I look forward to reading more of your posts!
ReplyDeleteHi Donovan,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a senior! I'm a senior as well and this is my last semester. Sounds like your family is pretty into psychology. I spend a lot of my free time thinking about and doing research on personality types. Are you into psychology as well? I like your picture of Tucson. The view looks amazing! Gotta go but good luck this semester!
Hi Donovan! I really enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about you! It is very cool that you got to spend your summer doing what you enjoy! I bet that was such a fun way to start your senior year! Good luck with the rest of this semester!
