Week 6 Story: Chuck's Adventure

Image
There once was a man named Chuck who was in his mid 40s and worked as a real estate agent. Chuck lived a simple life working his job, and tending to his yard. Every day of Chuck's life appeared to be identical. Chuck would wake up, work on yard and go to work. After work, Chuck would watch the news, eat dinner and go to bed. One day at work, Chuck's co worker Jason came over to his cubicle. After some small talk, Jason told Chuck that he should add some flavor to his life. Jason claimed that there was nothing worse in life than having regrets. This conversation weighed on Chuck's mind for the remainder of the work day. As he drove home he wondered what Jason meant by adding more flavor to his life. He had a solid job with a good home, Chuck felt content. As he explored these thoughts more, he realized that he did have regrets. Chuck's dad would always take him fishing when he was younger and it had quickly sprouted into a passion of Chucks. Once Chuck went to college

Week 5 Story: The Green Earring

There once was a wealthy and powerful prince named prince Lock. Prince Lock was grieving from the sudden and unexpected passing of his closest friend Theo several months ago. Prince Lock was an extremely kind and affable person, so naturally he had many friends, but none of them could quite match or surpass the bond that he and Theo had. Lock's adviser noticed that the young prince had been in a melancholy mood and suggested that he take all of his closest friends to his lake house for a weekend full of fun that would get his mind off of things and remind him of how great his life still was. Lock loved this idea and invited all of his closest friends as well as some family to his overwhelmingly great lake house for the weekend. The weekend was going perfectly, one of his great friends John, had traveled more than 24 hours to be there and brought his wife Sarah with him. The group of fifteen was on Lock's yacht amidst the lake when the yacht caught an unexpected wave and je

Storybook Plan

The topic I chose to research about is the OU ghost story. My first idea would be more of an origin story talking about how a student years ago was mistreated. The plot would probably involve taking the reader through the perspective of the mistreated student. He then would tragically pass and haunt the school. This idea would revolve around students trying to solve a mystery involving the disappearance of several other classmates. It would be reminiscent of a scooby-doo type mystery where the gang finds clues and seeks to gain more information to reach their ultimate goal.  This idea would be about students who are trying to convince the rest of the school that the school is haunted in order to either get a test date rescheduled or get revenge on their classmates. This is sort of the opposite of the scooby doo idea in that other students would think the school is haunted only to find out that it was just the shenanigans of their vengeful classmates. This will be a ser

I decided to write my post over the " Ted Talks videos "  consisting of the video " The danger of a single story " and " Imaginary friends and real-world consequences: parasocial relationships ". Concerning the first video, I found it extremely thought provoking and necessary. The theme of a single story is the term the speaker uses to express the act of boxing people and groups into a small mental  box, limiting who they can be. Continually show a people group as one thing, repeatedly, and eventually they will become this in your mind. This is so dangerous because what begins as an innocent story quickly festers into a negative bias, stereotype or even racism. The speaker closed by encouraging the audience to reject the single story, because when we do, we regain a kind of paradise. Regarding the second ted talk, the main idea is what roles fictional characters have that actually impact our real lives. The speaker calculated the amount of time mankind ha

Feedback Strategies

Image
The two articles I read about how to effectively give feedback were Be a Mirror , and Five Reasons to stop saying Good Job . I really enjoyed both articles. The idea behind the first article is that a "mirror" gives us unbiased truth. A mirror's job is to reflect back what is there without judgement. The article urges us to do the same when giving feedback to other. The second article gives reason to not always praise others, but rather be up-front and honest. What I found interesting is that although these are two completely separate articles, their main points were nearly identical.                                                                Feedback Image

Week 3 Story: Joseph and the Rolex

There once was a foster home located in Dallas Texas that was run by the kindest man in the entire city. His name was Theo and he dedicated his life to helping those in need and caring for as many children in search of a safe home as possible. There were currently 50 children between the ages of 7-18 that Theo was housing. One day, Theo walked through the front door with a young , 18 year old boy by the name of Joseph. He introduced him to the rest of the kids and told them to make Joseph feel at home. Joseph was immediately welcomed and soon became extremely popular. He even found his clique hanging out with 10 other boys close to his age that quickly grew to become like his brothers. They went everywhere and did everything with each other. As the weeks passed it became evident that Joseph excelled in numerous ways. He had a naturally athletic build to him accompanied by good looks, charisma and humility. As he joined the kids in the first semester of the school year he became belove

Feedback Thoughts

Image
I think feedback is a crucial part of reaching one's full potential. The reason feedback is so important is because we are very limited in our ability to judge ourselves properly. We have an inherent blind spot because we usually have put forth our best effort in whatever we are doing so to us it appears perfect or at least hard to spot any room for improvement. We have to come to terms with the fact that our perception isn't the same as everyone else's perception. Our vantage point combined with others can result in unprecedented success. This is why it is also important to not be extremely sensitive and be able to receive feedback. This is because you and the one giving feedback are both aiming for the same goal. You must realize that the only thing in life that doesn't change, is that everything is always changing. This applies to you too, so whenever you receive critiques, you should not view it as personal because we are constantly changing and if we aren't, th

Topic Brainstorm

Image
Topic Brainstorm possible topics: (Option 1) OU Ghost Stories- As I was scrolling through the list of possible topics this immediately jumped out at me. It's easy to talk about a topic or idea when you yourself have experienced it or the situation in someway applies to you. During the summer between my senior year of HS and Freshman year of OU, I attended a bridge program where they prepared us to be engineers and showed us the ropes of OU. The first night we were there the upperclassmen took us around OU's campus and told us about the haunted elements and legends involving our new campus. Although it was cheesy, there was a level of excitement that came over all of us as we told and listened to fictional beings that possess and dwell in our everyday environment. In short, I think it would be both easy and fun to write about this. Resource (Option 2) Greek Mythology - I read constantly as a young kid and still love reading today. I loved the Percy Jackson & the Olymp
